Valerie Hunt, representing Monahans High in Texas, placed second in the girls 15-16 discus throw final with an opening-round mark of 142-10 (43.54m) at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships at Sacramento State. Hunt, entering her sophomore year, also finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 38-0.75 (11.60m) in the sixth round and secured seventh place in the javelin throw final at 109-11 (33.52m).
